Thermal imaging is a technique, as the name suggests, a system of locating hot spots in any medium be it metal, liquids, gases or plastics. Hot spots provide clues to numerous potential problems.
Khazar Engineering has embraced this technology. A thermal imaging camera attached to a laser scanner provides the following benefits:
- As piping systems, or indeed vessels, suffer differing rates of corrosion or erosion due to manufacturing defects, the thinner wall thicknesses will conduct more heat. The imaging camera together with the laser scanner will pinpoint these areas with millimetre accuracy.
- Partial blockages of piping systems due to build up of scale or debris will produce a restriction orifice effect downstream of the partial blockage resulting in increased velocity and the consequential increase in generated temperature. This can be pinpointed with millimetre accuracy with our systems.
- Breakdown of cable sheaths or cores will generate hot spots which will readily identified using our technology.
The savings to customers to identity potential failure areas prior to catastrophic failure (which impacts plant, uptime and importantly personnel) cannot be over emphasised.
